OneReceipt App for iPhone

***Update!  Since OneReceipt is no longer active, I have been on the hunt for an alternative.  I have not found anything like it that I liked enough to use it but for you Amex cardholders, Amex now has the option (still in BETA form) to add an image of your receipt to a transaction on your account!  This is working well for us at the moment as 95% of our purchases are made on our Amex card.  I will continue to update as I find alternatives!**

Hi All!!
This week we are taking a look at the receipt management app that I am currently using which is OneReceipt.

***Sadly, OneReceipt will be shut down effective 8/24/16***

Overall, this app is missing a few features that I would like but at the end of the day, it does what I need it to and it's free so.

OneReceipt is a website with an app where you can scan in your receipts rather than keeping your paper receipts.  Many retailers will now let you return items with an image of your receipt rather than the original.  Most now have barcodes on the receipts that they scan to do the return so as long as you have a clear image of the receipt with the barcode, they should accept it.  Check with the retailer before you throw out your originals if you know you will need to return something.

Basically, you open the app, snap photos of your receipt, organize them then OneReceipt will process the images into a searchable entry.

Once they are processed, they show on the main screen by date like this.

Each receipt is broken down by item and price like this.

Once you upload your photos of the receipt, you get a few different ways/options to organize it.  You can organize by Category and Tags as well as add notes.  Categories have options like Deal Site, Office Supplies, Pets, Travel, etc.  Tags can be personalized however you want them.  I have one set as household and the other as business.

You can go back later and sort by tags and categories or even stores.  You can also search by item (like shampoo or Dove) but I have found a problem with this.  The data entry team that types out the items on the receipt, doesn't type them all the way out.  For example, instead of Kroger Whipping Cream, they typed Kro Whpping Cream.  So if I tried to search Whipping Cream, nothing would come up.  Thats been annoying.  I often have to go to the image of the receipt to find the item that I am looking for.

The website is definitely easier to use when it comes to organizing the receipts but the app makes it much easier to upload them.  You do get an email address associated with your account that you can email receipts to to upload them.  You can also link your regular email addresses and e receipts will be automatically uploaded.

Overall, its a good way to track your spending and to organize your receipts.  I used to keep all my paper receipts in a folio file but it took me forever to find the one I was looking for and they took up way too much space.  It took a while but I got all of them uploaded into the app and was able to shred all the paper ones.  I do really wish there was a better way to view the receipt image.  I personally would rather see the images rather than a typed out break down of all of the purchases on the receipt but that's just me.

Overall, if you need a good app to organize your receipts, this one is one that I would recommend for just basic everyday use but if you are constantly doing a lot of returns or needing to find a specific receipt for specific items, this one falls a little short.  I don't do a ton of returns and I don't need to run any specific expense reports or anything like that so this one works well for me at this point.

Until next time!!

Target Haul!!!

Hi All!!
So Jordyn and I just got back from Target and thought we would share all the goodies and deals we snagged!

Pardon the weird lighting and drooling dogs...
We went to take advantage of some of the in ad coupons this week (March 20th-26th) as well as to grab a few random things we needed.
It was an interesting trip to be sure!  Jordyn is in a weird phase where she will rarely tolerate riding in the shopping cart, except at CVS or if we are in the store less than 5 minutes UNLESS we are at Target.  When it comes to Target, she's got her little routine down there.  She knows there is no way we will be spending less than 30 minutes, she wants to watch Peppa Pig on my iPhone and she knows they have popcorn at the cafe and isn't afraid to beg for it.
If I have something big to get at Target that requires a cart, then we just keep our list as short as humanly possible and get out as fast as we can.  And even then she usually ends up riding in the big basket instead of the seat because she has learned to get out of the strap and stand up...
This time I knew that 6 boxes of diapers were not going to all fit in the cart with her in the seat so we did a run through the store with the stroller and grabbed all the little stuff then I was that crazy lady pushing a stroller and pulling a cart full of diapers to the check out. :)

The little random stuff that we got was:

Some Original Baked Lays, off brand oreos (not too bad but definitely not Oreos) and 2 boxes of peeps.

We also grabbed a stuffed bunny (who Jordyn talked the cashier out of so he's in the high chair with her), a chick sippy cup for her Easter Basket, replacement light bulbs, half and half, Woolite carpet spot cleaner, Up & Up dish soap and some Dentalife brand chews for the dogs.  The vet recommended Odessa start getting one every so often to help keep her teeth from getting worse (they aren't too bad yet) but most we have tried have irritated her stomach so we are trying these now.

The first coupon was for a free $5 Target gift card when you spend $20 on Personal Care items.

I use The Krazy Coupon Lady.com for my coupon matchups so I followed their instructions and got 3 Pantene hair sprays and 3 Softsoap bodywashes with manufaturer coupons, the Target coupon for the gift card plus the Pantene had a buy 3, get another $5 gift card.  I also got (but not part of the deal) Jordyn some kids 2 in 1 shampoo and some detangle spray, 2 Wet n Wild eyeshadow and a Dove deodorant.

The main deal I went to Target for was the Huggies diaper deal.

I got 4 super packs of Huggies size 4 diapers since Jordyn is just about ready to move up to size 4.  I also got 1 more box of size 3 and one box of Overnites size 4.  The overnights were not as good of a deal as the big boxes of regular diapers but we were running low so I opted for a box.  To complete the deal limits, I also got one pack of Kandoo wipes.

Target was running several deals on Huggies at the same time so I was able to use my manufacturer coupons and a Target coupon good for a $25 Target gift card when you spend $150 on baby items.  Huggies also had deals going good for a $10 Target gift card for every two boxes of applicable Huggies diapers you buy PLUS a $7 coupon good off your next Target purchase of any amount when you buy 3 boxes of Huggies.  So I paid $136.23 for the diapers and got back 3 $10 Target gift cards, 1 $25 Target gift card and a $7 coupon off my next trip.

So in total, I paid $188.84.  I got $65 back in Target gift cards and the $7 coupon for next time!
