Abbey's Knee Surgeries
Hi Guys!
Wanted to give everyone a bit of a doggy update.
Abbey, our barely 2 year old Rottweiler, started limping on one back leg about 3-4 weeks ago. It was just a mild limp so we decided to give her a few days (like we always do when one of them does this) before we took her to the vet. And it slowly got worse. While were were snowed in, she started limping BOTH back legs and we noticed that she was holding her hips strangely. As soon as the snow melted enough for the vets to re open, we made her an appointment. She was due for her annual check up so we just had the vet take a look at her while we were there. The vet's first thought was Lyme but her bloodwork came back negative for that so the vet said that either she just pulled something or she had a bad injury. So she sent us home with pain killers and anti-inflammatories and said if she wasn't better in a week to bring her back for X-rays and an orthopedic exam.
Sure enough, she wasn't better in a week so back to the vet she went. I dropped her off expecting a hip dysplasia diagnosis but what we got was a bilateral cruciate rupture. This means basically she tore both of her ACL ligaments at the same time. Odessa did this several years ago but she had one go first then about a year and a half later she tore the other one so having them both go at once is a new experience for us.
So we called back to the vet a couple of days later to speak to the surgeon about what kind of surgeries we had available and how they would be done. We spoke to him several times over a few days about the possibility of doing both knees at the same time but we ultimately came to the decision that they needed to be done separately to mitigate the risk and that TTA was the best procedure for her. I've left a link here to a website that explains exactly what that procedure is and what the others are if you are having the same issue with your dog. Odessa had the Ex-Cap Suture procedure on both of her knees and is just fine but she is much more mellow and less energy than Abbey. She was also older than Abbey is and was overweight at the time of her first surgery so after some weight loss and some hydrotherapy, she had done just fine. Because of Abbey's activity level, along with the fact that she is very, very clumsy, the surgeon felt that the TTA was better for her.
So she will have her first knee done on today (Tuesday the 16th). Keep an eye on our Snapchat for updates. Her second surgery will be 4-6 weeks after that depending on how well and fast she heals with another 2 or so months of restricted activity after that.
The vet that we are using is Dr Henry in Lynchburg, VA at Peaks View Animal Hospital. Our original quote for the 2 separate surgeries was $2527.11 for the first knee and $2127.11 for the second knee. He does offer some second knee discounts and since he happened to be there when Abbey had her x-rays, they went ahead and did her pre op x-rays so that saved us a little bit as well.
I will do some follow up posts after she has recovered from her first and second surgeries with how everything went, how much we paid, and how her recoveries are going.

Ibotta Rebate App Review
Ibotta is a FREE app for IOS and Android that gives you rebates on your shopping! It works on purchases from many major retailers like Target, Walmart, CVS, Walgreens, some apparel stores and even some restaurants!
These rebates can be redeemed regardless of any coupons used or sales prices on items. Ibotta doesn't care what you paid for the item, as long as you have a receipt that says you bought it. Because of this, you can score some major savings if you have sales and coupons to stack on top of the rebates and sometimes even make money on items you got for cheap or free.
The app is SUPER easy to use. You have to have the app to use the service, not just the website. Once you download the app, you will need to login. I would recommend using your Facebook page to login because Ibotta often does teamwork promotions and the easiest way to build your team is through your Facebook friends.
When you first open the app, you will see this screen.
From this screen, you select the category, the store, then the item or you can search for a particular item in the search bar at the top.
Once you find the item you're looking for, you will need to unlock it by clicking the button that says "unlock" on it. This can be anything from answering a 1 question survey, reading a fact about the product or even watching a short video. Once you have completed the task, that rebate will be unlocked.
Once you have done this to all of the items you want to redeem the rebates on, from that store (you must do it one store at a time as you have to scan in your receipts) you need to select the Verify Purchases button at the bottom. Once you do, you will see this screen.
Once you get here, you will need to check off the items that don't have barcodes (usually fresh fruit and veg) then scan the barcodes of the items that do have one. This is to verify that you purchased the correct item. Once that is done, click complete and move onto step two which is to take a photo of your entire receipt. It has the option to take multiple pictures if you have a longer receipt.
And thats it! That's all you have to do to get your credit! Once the credit hits your account, you can select how you want to get your monies! They have the option of Venmo and Paypal as well as loads of gift cards to major stores.
The app also has a shopping list feature where you can make your shopping list and it will flag the items that have rebates on them (so you know what brand or size).
I love anything that saves me money, especially things that are as easy as Ibotta. As soon as I get home from the store, I go through the app and go ahead and redeem any rebates before I forget and while I still have everything out to be scanned.
Overall, I LOVE this app! It is just too easy to use, it can be stacked on top of any other deals I got and my favorite feature is you actually get cash rather than having to save up a ton of points or credits to redeem for gift cards or something.
I also regularly use several other rebates apps on top of Ibotta to maximize my savings. I also use Checkout 51, Snap by Groupon, Shopmium and MobiSave. If you would like to see a similar post on any of these other apps, let me know in the comments below!!

14 Week Challenge: Week #9 Linen Closets & Week #10 Bathrooms & Week #11 Laundry Room
Our two linen closets and the laundry room are all in the bathrooms in our house so I decided to roll these three weeks into one post since I did them all at once.
I started in the master bathroom/linen closet right after I finished the master closet and bedroom. Our bathrooms and linen closets don't have much in then anyway so there wasn't really much to do in these.
The kids/guest bath was the worst of the three. Anyone else fail at putting the bath toys away after bath time?
The half bath/laundry room was last.
We keep all of our meds and first aid stuff under the sink which looked like a bomb went off. Also more than half of the meds were expired. Not just expired but WAY expired. Thank goodness we haven't needed them.
All done!

14 Week Challenge: Week #4 Launch Pad & Week #5 Living Room
We don't have a launch pad so I skipped this one. Anything that would go on a launch pad goes upstairs in the "office". We do have an issue with stuff that needs to go up there getting piled up on the stairs so I got these little baskets from Target to keep on the stairs to contain all the crap. One is for Jordyn and the other is for me.
Our living room is pretty small so there wasn't much to do in here. Like I said in my last post, we are going to do be shampooing the rug and furniture once it warms back up then Scotch Guarding the rug and getting pet covers for the sofa and chairs.
I spent all of 20 minutes in here and I forgot to take a before picture but here is the after picture.
We keep a little diaper station and all of Jordyn's little toys in the entertainment center so I cleaned it all up and refilled the diapers and wipes. The two cabinets by the fire place hold our cook books and photo albums but since we just got those they didn't need to be organized.
