I recently received the Schick Hydro Silk women's razor through the Schick campaign at Bzzagent.com. The Schick Hydro Silk razor is a 5 blade razor with a water activated moisturizing serum built into the razor. The kit included 2 cartridges, 1 handle and a suction cup shower hanger.
I started off using this product to shave my legs, during which I noticed a few things. The first was how much I like the handle. It is made of a gel that allows for a non-slip grip and is large enough to keep a good grip on. Most razors have a thin handle that can be difficult to keep a hold of so I was pleased with that. What I did not care much for was the moisturizing serum, the size of the head and the quality of the shave. The website stated that this is a "traditional" razor and that the best results could be achieved by using a shaving cream so I used Gillette Fusion shaving gel. While in the process of shaving, I noticed that the serum was very gooey and stringy. I could pull the razor away from my skin and there was a long string of serum stretching in between. It was a bit uncomfortable and got everywhere. Now, this is my normal shaving gel and I have never had an issue like this with it. I tried rinsing the razor and using it on my underarms without shaving gel but I got the same stringy goo. I used the razor on my underarms for several more days and noticed by the third day that there did not seem to be any serum coming off of the razor at all even when I would wet the razor before shaving. I also did not care much for the shape of the head. Because of the extra plastic for holding the serum, it made the head more difficult to manuver around my ankles and the back of my knees. I also felt that the shave quality was sub par. I usually use one of my husbands Gillette Fusion razors and I can usually go at least 5 days without needing to shave my legs again but after shaving with the Schick Hydro, I noticed stubble the next morning.
This product is available at most major retailers where personal products are sold and runs around $9 for the Kit.
